How we use your information

We use your information to run our practice and our website, and for nothing else.

  • To respond to your inquiry and schedule a consultation
  • To evaluate whether we can represent you, including checking for conflicts of interest
  • To understand how visitors use our site so we can improve it
  • To protect the site from spam, fraud, and security threats
  • To meet our legal and professional obligations

Contacting us through this website does not create an attorney-client relationship. That relationship begins only after we agree in writing to represent you.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose it only to service providers who help us run the site and our office, under contracts that limit their use of it to serving us.

Cookies, analytics, and your choices

Analytics cookies, and cookies from embedded YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn content, are set only after you accept them in the cookie banner. Cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to work and stay secure are set without consent.

  • Change your mind anytime. Use the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of any page to accept or decline analytics.
  • Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a decline of analytics cookies, and our analytics tools will not run.

  • Browser controls. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Your privacy rights

Whatever state you live in, you can ask us to do any of the following with the personal information we hold about you.

  • Access: know what personal information we have collected about you, where it came from, why we use it, and who we have disclosed it to, and get a copy.
  • Deletion: ask us to delete it.
  • Correction: ask us to fix information that is inaccurate.
  • Portability: receive your information in a commonly used electronic format.
  • Opt out: decline analytics cookies (see Cookies, analytics, and your choices). We do not sell or share your information for advertising, so there is nothing further to opt out of.
  • Non-discrimination: we will not treat you differently or deny you services for using any of these rights.

Some requests have legal limits. For example, we may have to keep records that our rules of professional conduct, court rules, or the law require us to retain, and we cannot release information protected by another person’s privilege or confidentiality. If we deny any part of a request, we will tell you why.

How to make a request

Email mike@cheklaw.com or call (877) 243-5529 and tell us which right you want to use.

  1. We confirm receipt within 10 business days.
  2. We verify your identity by matching the details you give us (such as your name, email, and phone number) against the information we already hold. For sensitive requests, such as a copy of your information or deletion, we may ask one or two more questions. We will not ask for more than we need, and we use what you give us only to verify you.
  3. We respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why and may take up to 45 more days.

An authorized agent can make a request for you if they give us your signed written permission, and we may still confirm your identity directly with you.

How long we keep it

We keep inquiries from people who do not become clients only as long as we need them to respond and to check for conflicts of interest. Client information is kept for the periods our professional rules and the law require. Website analytics data is kept for no more than 12 months.

How we protect it

We use encrypted connections, access controls, and reputable service providers to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so please avoid sending highly sensitive details through the contact form.

Children

Our website is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information through it.

Changes to this policy

We review this policy at least once a year and whenever our practices change. The “Last Updated” date at the top shows when it last changed, and we keep prior versions on file.
